Abstract

A number of suggestions for improving the performance of the boilers of torpedo boats had been made by one of The Engineer's contemporaries. The Editor of The Engineer explained that whilst it was desirable to reduce the intensity of the draught in forced-draught fired vessels, it was foolish to think that torpedo boat builders such as Yarrow and Co. would be using forced-draught firing with stokehold pressure of 6 inches of water gauge if they could obtain the same results with lower pressures.
